There's lots happening in the coming weeks! End of financial year is fast approaching, the Watarrka Foundation is gearing up for the 2024 Sports & Storytelling Festival, which will be held at Lilla from the 12th to the 14th of June, and National Reconciliation Week kicks off on the 27th of May; the theme this year is Now More Than Ever

End of Financial Year and the 2024 Sports & Storytelling Festival

This end of financial year, consider making a donation to the Watarrka Foundation. We are a registered Deductible Gift Recipient charity, so all donations over $2 are tax deductible and we will provide you with a full tax receipt. Your donation will help support a sustainable environment, education, healthy lifestyles and independent livelihoods for Aboriginal communities in the Watarrka region, with a special focus on the region's youth.

This month, we are calling for donations to support the upcoming 2024 Lilla Sports & Storytelling Festival. The festival is an annual event which brings together Aboriginal primary school aged students from throughout the Watarrka region for a three-day immersive educational, physical, fun experience, with the primary goal of educating local students on the importance of attending school. National Reconciliation Week 2024: Now More Than Ever

From 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week events and activities will take place around Australia. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

The theme for this year is Now More Than Ever, which emphasises that, though there have been some discouraging moments in the past year for reconciliation, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continue.

"There have been many moments in Australia’s reconciliation journey that make us want to turn away. But when things are divisive, the worst thing we can do is disengage or disconnect."

- Reconciliation Australia on this year's theme

You can get involved with National Reconciliation Week by attending or supporting an event. Events are hosted around Australia by local councils, art galleries, theatres and libraries. You can also read Reconciliation Australia's May newsletter for more information about this year's theme and the most recent reconciliation news from around the country.
