The Watarrka Foundation is pleased to share that this October, St Luke’s Grammar School in Sydney, together with our longtime friends at Alpitye Art Studio in Alice Springs, will host a special exhibition and sale of more than 300 traditional and contemporary Indigenous artworks by over 30 artists.
Proceeds from the exhibition will support an upcoming Foundation project to employ a dedicated mentor for school leavers in the Watarrka region. The mentor will help young people transition from school into employment at Kings Canyon Resort and other local businesses.
We warmly invite all Watarrka Foundation supporters, subscribers, and friends to attend this special event.
A core part of the Watarrka Foundation’s mission is to create brighter futures for young Indigenous people in the Watarrka region of Central Australia through education and opportunity. Our projects, such as the annual Lilla Sports & Storytelling Festival, focus on lifting school attendance rates and helping young people develop the skills and confidence to build fulfilling lives.
The new Mentorship Project extends this work beyond the classroom by employing a dedicated mentor to support recent school leavers on Country. The mentor will care for graduates’ daily wellbeing, provide guidance and encouragement, and help them transition from school into meaningful employment. With this support, graduates can move into job placements and traineeships at Kings Canyon Resort and other local businesses, while remaining on Country and close to their families, community, and culture.
The Watarrka Foundation thanks St Luke’s Grammar School, Alpitye Art Studio, and all those working on the ground and behind the scenes to make this special event possible.
Stay tuned for updates about the upcoming 2025 Lilla Sports & Storytelling Festival!
